In honor of May Day, Jane will be joined by Texas AFL-CIO President Rick Levy and Greenpeace Chief Program Director Tefere Gebre to discuss the labor movement, the climate crisis, and a just transition. They’ll explore what it looks like to ensure workers and communities are fully supported in the transition away from fossil fuels and talk about the inspiring union organizing happening across the country.

Rick Levy is the President of the Texas AFL-CIO, a position he was elected to in 2017. Previously, he held the position of Secretary-Treasurer from 2015-2017. As President, Rick has focused on helping to build a broader, bolder and more inclusive labor movement, and weaving movement wide solidarity to to answer the challenges faced by working people in Texas. Under his tenure, the Federation has led the fight against legislative and political attacks on the labor movement as well as introducing significant initiatives to build worker power in Texas, including the Texas Climate Jobs Project, the Texas AFL-CIO Citizenship Program, the Texas AFL-CIO Racial Justice Task Force, and the Texas AFL-CIO Women’s Committee. Tefere Gebre is the Chief Program Officer of Greenpeace USA. Tefere has over thirty years of experience in coalition building, activism, and organizing in the labor movement. His impressive track record demonstrates success in mobilizing and uniting everyone from faith leaders to labor activists to racial justice and immigration groups around the causes he’s worked on. Tefere served in leadership roles at the AFL-CIO and the Orange County Labor Federation, before joining Greenpeace.
