ISIS abducted and detained thousands of people when they held swaths of territory in Syria between 2013 and 2019, many of whom had been executed or remain missing. The effort to identify these people and to locate their remains will last many years. The effort to deliver justice for these extensive crimes is needed to promote a more stable Syria.
