Born in the Colombian Amazon, Jani Silva has dedicated her life to defending the trees and land that are everyone’s life blood. From the age of 16, she’s been standing with the campesino farmers of Putumayo, a region nestled in the south of the country and brimming with unique biodiversity. Defending the territory has had terrifying consequences for Jani. She’s been followed, intimidated by gun-toting thugs, and threatened with death. COVID-19 has made matters worse, confining activists to their homes and limiting their protection.
