Can you imagine looking out the window and seeing an oil or gas well pumping pollution and toxins into the air you’re breathing? Sadly, this is the case for almost 3 million Californians who live or work near drilling.
But this was supposed to be a thing of the past. This month, as we commemorate the one year anniversary of Governor Newsom signing into law a bill that would establish a buffer zone between drilling and homes, schools, and hospitals, frontline communities are still suffering because the oil industry poured millions into a referendum to delay and possibly overturn this law.
The good news? Governor Newsom can stop the permits, stop the drilling right now … starting with those closest to neighborhoods. But will he?
