Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a third-generation Bronxite, is the sitting Congresswoman for the Fourteenth District of New York, and the youngest woman in history to serve in the U.S. Congress. Previously, she worked as an organizer and served as the educational director of the National Hispanic Institute; she has carried her commitment to social, racial, economic, and environmental justice into political office. In addition to her work focusing on income inequality, the reduction of corporate interests in our government, immigrant rights, and civil protections for marginalized communities around the country, Alexandria is an advocate for environmental justice and climate change policy, co-authoring House Resolution 109 (‘Recognizing the duty of the Federal Government to create a Green New Deal’) along with Senator Ed Markey in 2019.
